Joanne Lester One of SUNNY 95's "20 Outstanding Women You Should Know 2010"
A
stitch in time, in some cases can save more than “nine”, when you hear
comments like, “it’s beautiful”, “it helped me so much”, and “it meant
the world to me.”
Joanne Lester has heard those
comments and more as the founder of The James Stitching Sisters, an
all-volunteer group that makes quilts for breast cancer patients who
are starting treatment at JamesCare in Dublin and at JamesCare East.
The group, which started in 2004,
presented their first quilts in 2005 and since then has warmed the
hearts and souls of patients and their families with more than 2000
quilts.
The Stitching Sisters also have an
annual quilt day in the spring, which is also organized by Joanne, and
anyone who shares the same wish to care and make life a little brighter
for those who are battling cancer are invited to join. No experience
necessary. Just the desire to bring some comfort and warmth against the
battle of a cold and heartless disease.
