Breast cancer patients
receive a quilt to provide
emotional
and physical warmth during their breast cancer treatments.
James Stitching Sisters
| The James Stitching Sisters is a
group of volunteers who create lap quilts for breast cancer patients
receiving breast cancer
treatment at the Comprehensive Breast Health
Center at JamesCare in Dublin or at OSU East. The group was
formed in
2004 by Joanne Lester, a nurse practitioner at Ohio State's James
Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. The first quilts were donated in June of
2005. Today, the group
includes hundreds of breast
cancer survivors, caregivers, family
members and friends interested in bringing warmth and strength to
breast cancer patients. |

2,500 quilts donated
as of 12-31-09

Our
Mission
The James Stitching
Sisters are
devoted to bringing color, comfort, warmth and support to breast cancer
patients by creating and distributing handcrafted quilts. These
inspiring sisters have donated 2,500 quilts and tote bags to
patients as they start their treatments. In addition, many
quilts and wall hangings brighten the walls of the waiting rooms,
clinic areas and chemotherapy suites at JamesCare in Dublin.
Sewing
Center
The James Stitching
Sisters have
created a Sewing Center at 325 Cramer Creek Court in Dublin where they
regularly
meet to work on projects. This is possible due to a generous donation
of office space, originally from Frank Kass, Continental Realty. The
space is currently sustained by Nationwide Realty. The Sewing Center
has been up and running since October 2005 as a place to gather and
organize fabric, cut quilts, piece tops, machine quilt, and maintain
the breast cancer patient quilt program.
Anyone interested is
welcome to join
us as we work toward our goal of providing a quilt to each breast
cancer patient. We need
people to sew, sort fabric, iron, quilt and laugh. You can take kits
home to piece, completed tops to quilt, or completed quilts to bind.
How
You Can Help
Anyone can be part of
this project. We welcome time, talent and treasures in any shape, size
or form.
Share your time, talent
and treasures by:
- Working at home or
at the
Sewing Center on various projects. We need help with the creation and
completion of quilts, as well as non-sewing tasks.
- Lending creativity
in fabric selection, patterns, piecing, quilting, as well as other
non-sewing projects.
- Cleaning out your
fabric stash.
Donated fabric can be dropped off at the Sewing Center during volunteer
hours, or brought to JamesCare in Dublin, ATTN: Joanne Lester, (614)
519-8995.
